It’s not often that I get asked for my thoughtful opinion about the association between chiropractic neck adjustments and stroke, but I always welcome the conversation.
When I graduated from Life University, I took the hippocratic oath, which states “first do no harm”, but even beyond that, I believe as a conscientious and caring doctor, it’s important to face difficult topics with compassion, grace, and wisdom.
The big question is, “do chiropractic neck adjustments/ manipulations cause strokes?”, and looking at the evidence, the answer appears to be a clear ‘no’. In fact, the research shows the opposite.
A literature review in the September, 2001 issue of The Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research reports that patients under chiropractic care experience strokes at a considerably lower rate than people who are not under chiropractic care.
The review found that people not under chiropractic care suffer strokes at a rate more than twice that of people who are under chiropractic care. Some of the studies reviewed put that number much higher saying non-chiropractic patients are 27,500 times more likely to have a stroke than chiropractic patients.
Chiropractic is safe for family members of all ages, and as your caring Kennesaw area Chiropractor, I take my commitment to the health of my patients very seriously. Don’t let fear and misinformation cause you to miss out on your God-given potential, and make your appointment today!
